Uponor Donates Dollars and Time to South Metro Miracle League and New Ballpark
The South Metro Miracle League is a baseball association especially for children between the ages of three and 19 with disabilities. The new ballpark, located at 18350 Dodd Boulevard in Lakeville, will be a barrier-free, handicapped- and wheelchair-accessible baseball and softball field with a cushioned, rubberized playing surface. “This league means so much to the children and their friends and families,” says Richard Peick, Engineering project manager at Uponor. “Uponor is proud to be a Grand Slam Club sponsor of the new ballpark and we also look forward to donating more of our time to the league.” Peick, whose son has signed up to be a ‘buddy’ in the league (which helps the children run the bases), was onsite at the groundbreaking ceremony with shovel in hand, along with several other community leaders and members, to take one of the first digs in the dirt. According to Brian Roseen, South Metro Miracle League Director, the league is the newest youth baseball program offering under the Lakeville Baseball Association. While there are currently 24 children signed up to participate, the league is set up to accommodate up to 240 players. “We purposely kept the fall group a little smaller so we could learn more about running the league before we add more teams in the summer,” says Roseen. The league will offer spring/summer and fall baseball programs. Currently, the fall league will run for four weeks every Sunday beginning Sept. 12, 2010.
